Mercy Killings - s/t 7"

Mercy Killings features members of Richmond VA's Wasted Time and Direct Control, however the bands musical approach is definitely more akin to the angry kick in the gut that was previously provided by Wasted Time. Straight out of the starting gate Mercy Killings delivers a high energy attack that's interspersed with some nice chugging riffs and tempo changes, and then  topped off with pissed the fuck off vocals to really drive the bands point home.  Overall,  this is a promising first ep and I definitely look forwarded to hearing more from Mercy Killings in the future...Dave G.

Sickoids - No Home Lp - Sorry State Records

Sickoids are a raw and powerful hardcore band consisting of ex members of Direct Control, Government Warning, Witch Hunt and Bad Advice. 

The band's brand new Lp "No Home" will hit you like a full on kick in the sack. The music is thick, tight and raging from start to finish. Sickoids somehow remind me of the incredible old school hardcore/metal band DBC (Dead Brain Cells), especially in the song "Empty Death". I am sure this is completely unintentional and probably something that is only heard inside my own head. The band compare themselves to Poison Idea, and I also hear a bit of an old school Boston sound, and even Dr. Know in these songs.

Anyway, another top notch release from Sorry State Records that you need to add to your collection...Dave G.

Obsessor - In Fear of the End (Tankcrime records 2012)

This is the 3rd and I believe final installment in the Obsessor cassette series. Hopefully, Obsessor will move away from the limitations of the cassette format in the near future and give us a 3 or 4 song 7" or Lp to sink our teeth into because these cassettes really leave me feeling like I need to hear more.

On this latest release
"In Fear of the End" you get  2 tracks of metallic hardcore that speed by in the blink of an eye. I saw Sorry State compare Obsessor to later Poison Idea circa "War All the Time" and I think that's an accurate comparison on track 1 , however track 2 has a quicker tighter more thrash metal feel especially in the quick tight riffing.  Overall this is another solid release from Obsessor...I suggest you get all 3 cassettes and rip them to one folder or cd so you can get a real feel for what Osessor is all about...Dave G.

Bad Advice - Do Not Resuscitate 7" - Grave Mistake 2012

Richmond Virginia's Bad Advice originally dropped a 3 song demo cdr about 3 or 4 years ago and then seemed to immediately drop off the punk/hardcore landscape. Eventually, Grave Mistake announced that they were working on releasing this 7" and after numerous delays and the passing of a couple of years the "Do Not Resusitate" 7" has finally seen the light of day...and it was well worth the wait in my opinion.

Bad Advice features most notably Tony Bitch (Ladies) and Brandon Ferrrell (Direct Control, Government Warning, Obsessor etc) so if you are a fan of any of these dudes other bands then you are sure to be pleased with Bad Advice.

What you get on this platter is some Straight forward angry hardcore punk with early NY/Boston hardcore touches throughout. I swear I even here some Crumbsuckers in the songs "If Life's A Joke" and "Anger Problem".

Anyway, Grave Mistake has done it yet again, the quality control at this label is outstanding and I recommend you dig through their back catalog and keep your eyes peeled for no less than 8 new releases from Grave Mistake in 2012...Dave G.
