High on Fire Video for "Slave the Hive" Posted

High On Fire have posted a video for "Slave the Hive." The song, available as limited edition 7-inch at every stop of the group's current headlining tour, marks the first new music from the California metal band since the spring 2012 release of De Vermis Mysteriis .

Purple Suns - Yours

On their second release and follow up to January's 'Mines' EP, South Jersey's
Purple Suns show they are definitely a band on the rise with their impressive take on Metal and to be more precise, Stoner Rock. 'Yours', like its predecessor features four tracks that left a deep and sludgy footprint on this listener. Purple Suns deliver early Sabbath influenced vocals with fuzzed out dirty riffs and downright depressing rhythms.  Elements that reach vicious heights on tracks like 'Villains' and 'Concussion'.
Though somewhat different in style and approach,
'Mines' and 'Yours' compliment one another when played as an album. 'Yours' showcases a progression in the bands evolving sound and style. Impressive considering these guys are still a band in their infancy. Purple Suns seem to be brewing a sound comparable to current heavy hitters Kylesa and High on Fire. Knowing that these guys are cooking things up in our own backyard of Jersey is a comforting thought.

Satellite Beaver - The Last Bow ep 2012

Satellite Beaver are a stoner band hailing from Warsaw Poland who formed in 2008. The Beaver play a down tuned, somewhat fuzzed out style of metal, with vocals that range from clean to being reminiscent of Matt Pike from Sleep / High on Fire. Actually, my knowledge of stoner metal is fairly limited but I think it may be safe to compare Satellite Beaver to Sleep/HOF.

For the most part the songs presented on the "The Last Bow" ep  move along at a nice thick mid-tempo pace, however Satellite Beaver put the pedal to the metal on the third song  "Way Before" which pummels at a  nice quick pace. Overall, these 4 songs are very promising and leave me curious to hear more. If you're a fan of stoner metal I think Satellite Beaver will be a welcome new addition to your playlist...check em out..Dave G.
